IRRI Micromodules → Rice Breeding Innovations

Speed Breeding Facility at ISARC

Description
Urgent challenges like climate change, growing populations, and competition for resources are forcing global efforts to ensure food and nutrition security to be accelerated. The development of improved crop varieties with enhanced yields, resilience, and sustainability has proven to be an effective solution, however, conventional breeding of crops can take many years to accomplish, slowing down the process.
The new Speed Breeding (SpeedBreed) facility at ISARC can grow rice plants in special growth chambers using controlled protocols for optimal light intensity, spectrum, photoperiod, temperature, humidity, and CO2.

In this Micromodule, you will get an overview of the Speed breeding facility.
